A 33-Foot Statement Concrete look microcement fireplace in a Luxury Modern Home

For this new build in Cambridge, Ontario, Dahshur Construction was chosen to craft the main focal point of a luxury modern living space: a 33-foot floor-to-ceiling Concrete look microcement fireplace. Spanning 462 square feet, this fireplace is more than a functional element; it is a bold architectural statement that anchors the entire home’s design. The homeowners wanted a piece that immediately captured attention upon entering the room, setting the tone for the house’s industrial yet elegant atmosphere. By using microcement with a concrete look finish, we were able to create the seamless, modern surface they envisioned, without the structural weight or limitations of poured concrete. The result is a fireplace that is both visually striking and technically flawless, designed to stand the test of time.

The Finish: Flagstone Raw Concrete Look (Matte Sealer)

To achieve the industrial, slab-like effect, we used our Concrete look microcement fireplace finish in the Flagstone color tone. This shade sits perfectly between modern grey and natural stone, making it versatile and timeless. To create depth and structure, our team introduced horizontal joints, carefully positioned to replicate the appearance of massive concrete slabs stacked one above another. These joints add architectural definition, giving the wall a three-dimensional feel rather than a flat surface. A matte sealer was chosen to protect the finish while maintaining its natural, stone-like appearance, avoiding any artificial shine. This finish makes the fireplace feel authentic, like solid poured concrete, but with the flexibility, durability, and lightweight advantages of microcement. Every joint and surface transition was hand-crafted to deliver a finish that feels both natural and intentionally designed.

Design & Execution

The scale of this fireplace made it both a challenge and a privilege to work on. At 33 feet in height, keeping the surface perfectly flat and consistent was essential, especially since the room is flooded with direct sunlight. Any imperfection would have been immediately noticeable. To overcome this, our craftsmen applied multiple thin layers of microcement with precision, ensuring that each pass achieved both smoothness and texture where intended. The horizontal joints were executed with meticulous accuracy, reinforcing the illusion of concrete slabs while adding rhythm to the vertical expanse of the wall. The design also incorporated a TV niche, which was seamlessly integrated into the surface without disrupting the flow of the slab pattern. The end result was a fireplace that not only met but exceeded the client’s vision for a modern, industrial-luxury centerpiece.

Why Choose Microcement for Fireplaces?

Microcement offers the authentic look of concrete while being far more versatile and practical for fireplace applications. Unlike traditional concrete, it does not require structural reinforcement, making it ideal for large-scale features like this project. The material is durable, heat-resistant, and seamless, eliminating the need for grout lines or panel joints. Designers and builders value microcement because it allows for customizable textures and tones, from smooth modern finishes to rugged industrial looks. For this Cambridge fireplace, the raw concrete appearance paired with a matte finish brought out a refined yet natural style that fits perfectly in a high-end setting. Microcement also provides lasting performance with minimal maintenance, ensuring that fireplaces maintain their architectural impact for years. It is the perfect choice for luxury builders and interior designers seeking both style and technical reliability.
