Marmorino Fireplace in Cambridge, Ontario

This project in Cambridge features a stunning Marmorino fireplace designed to be the visual centerpiece of a newly built modern home, similar to our Microcement Fireplace Project in Cambridge, which uses a seamless concrete look for a different aesthetic. The finish used was a metallic black Marmorino, applied with a burnished skipped-trowel texture that delivers depth and subtle movement across the surface. When natural sunlight hits the wall, the soft metallic sheen transforms, revealing elegant variations in tone that make the surface come alive. This project perfectly combines craftsmanship and design precision, resulting in a luxury fireplace that feels both classic and contemporary. By using Marmorino — a traditional lime-based plaster finish — the result exudes timeless elegance while offering the smooth refinement expected in modern interiors.

Design & Vision

The client envisioned a luxurious yet understated fireplace that balanced classic craftsmanship with a modern, high-end aesthetic. The goal was to achieve a refined, elegant look with a subtle metallic shine that would interact beautifully with natural light. The chosen metallic black tone brings sophistication and boldness, while the burnished skipped-trowel texture adds depth and softness. This Marmorino finish evokes a sense of timeless Italian artistry while fitting perfectly into a sleek, contemporary home. Each trowel stroke was applied by hand to create a rich, dynamic surface that shifts character as the light changes throughout the day — from soft, velvety tones in the morning to a striking reflective effect in the afternoon sun.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the project’s main challenges was ensuring that the metallic shine reacted perfectly with the side light entering the living space. Achieving this required expert control over the trowel technique, drying time, and the pressure used during the final burnishing phase. Too much compression could dull the sheen; too little would reduce the metallic play of light. Through careful testing and our deep understanding of Marmorino materials, we achieved the precise luminous effect the client desired. Every layer was applied with consistent texture and thickness to ensure a smooth yet dynamic surface. The result was a perfectly balanced sheen that feels handcrafted, elegant, and radiant under changing light conditions — exactly as envisioned.

Why Choose Microcement for Fireplaces?

As a feature in a new build, this Marmorino fireplace instantly elevated the main living area, defining the home’s character and atmosphere. The rich metallic black tone introduced a luxurious contrast against the neutral palette of the space, while the polished-by-hand texture added artisanal depth. The final effect is an architectural statement that reflects both craftsmanship and contemporary taste — bold yet sophisticated, dramatic yet refined. Beyond aesthetics, the finish also offers durability and low maintenance, ensuring its beauty lasts for years. This Cambridge project stands as a perfect example of how Marmorino plaster can merge tradition and innovation, making it a top choice for designers and homeowners seeking timeless luxury.
